Unidentified location

What is your question?

Hi, I was cleaning the car the other day and took off the base of the back seats and found something I didn't know was there. It was a plastic cover the size of a door speaker, black with three phillips screws, and underneath where a big plastic circle knob and a plug with 4 wires, and the smell of gas. Can anyone tell me what that could be?

It sounds like the cover that should be over the access panel for the fuel pump in the fuel tank. I would use some sealer and re secure the cover panel.
