VW have a Service Bullitain about a heater control blend door having a common failure (Bullitain # 8507-01) issued May 2007 that outlines repair procedures to be carried out. If your car has climate control the system has on board diagnostics but requires a VW or VW equivalent quality scan tool to retrieve the trouble codes.
