Grinding gears could be a sign that the clutch is not "breaking the drive" between the engine and the transmission, could be due to too much clutch clearance.Could be the gearshift cables are out of adjustment. Are you sure you put the clutch in the right way?? The clutch plate goes in with the dish side facing the transmission (away from the flywheel). Putting it in backwards will almost always cause it to not go into reverse. Hope this helps.....
