What is your question?
My son just bought used 2009 GTI. Is it common that the MIL (check engine light) comes on when the system goes from needing service soon to Service required? Is it a coincidence or am in for a surprise when i bring it to the shop?
How long has your 2009 Volkswagen GTI had this problem?

The MIL will not come on due to a need for maintenance. It comes on only due to performance issues of the engine, often affecting vehicle emissions controls. A diagnostic test will be required to see what is happening with your vehicle. The cause of a MIL illuminating can be as simple as not having a tight enough fuel filling cap. Good luck!
