my 1.8L gti is overheating took it to the shop they told me it was because my radiator hoses were spongy from oil causing my engine to overheat has anyone heard of this or had anything like this happen to them also just replaced heads and gaskets so don't see how this could be possible any ideas?

Hoses can 'bulge out' or 'squeeze shut' when they are worn out but I have never heard the term 'spongy' to describe one of those issues. A worn out hose can block or impede flow causing an overheat condition. So, can a blockage in the system, busted thermostat and shorted fan motors. Need to find true cause......take to a different shop for a second opinion. Give them all the info. you can.....
