The automatic transmission was replaced by a second hand but does shift.

-On the D position the car remains with the second gear all the time; it never shifts up or down as required, except for R.

Do you have any warning lights on? It sounds like it is in Limp Mode. You need to have a Diagnostic scan to see what faults are stored.

My auto 1.6 golf will not select 4th gear. Computer says G38 speed sensor fault. Anybody got any ideas if this is correct & if renewing it will cure it?
