Car just quits or stalls

I own a 98 VW GTI VR6 and I had the same problem. For me, replacing the mass air flow sensor fixed the problem, but because of how expensive they are I used MAF sensors from junk yards and just cleaned them with MAF sensor cleaner. I also realized that if I just unplugged my mass air flow sensor for a couple minutes and then plugged it back in it would also fix the problem most of the time. This was something I just dealt with until I took my cold air intake off and put the stock air box back on and I haven't had the problem since.
