You did not indicate which engine. However, neither engine requires removal of the intake manifold to replace the engine's thermostat. What do you mean by "crank case may need replacement?" Have you performed testing to see if the thermostat is maybe not opening as it should be? Have you tested other components, like the engine cooling fans?
