Why does my 2000 VW Cabrio have a 1.9L diesel engine?

What is your question?

Every time I open the hood. 1.9L diesel engine is there. Tag on car says "PORT OF ORGIN: MEXICO." Can't find any info on 2000 VW Cabrio Diesel.

What makes this problem better or worse?
