why won't my car start?

it was running fine, only stopped to get a bite to eat. It started ran approx 7 sec. then died. now wont start. I can here the fuel pump when I turn the key on. The battery is good. I here the starter. I don' know if the engine is trying to turn . It does sound different when I try to crank the engine. Had to have it towed home 138 miles on a flat bed What seems to make the problem better or worse? trying to start it How long have you had this problem? just once. it gave no warning
