Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It sounds like your 2003 Volkswagen Beetle is throwing a bit of a tantrum! The codes you're seeing give us some clues. P0171 indicates a lean fuel condition, which could suggest a vacuum leak or an issue with the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. P0420 points to a catalytic converter efficiency problem, while P0441 indicates a potential issue with the evaporative emission control system. P1176 could be related to fuel mixture issues. Given that your car died while driving and won’t start now, I’d focus on checking for any vacuum leaks first, and then ensure the MAF sensor is clean and functioning properly. If those check out, you may want to test the fuel pump to ensure it's delivering fuel properly.
