My boyfriend has a 2001 VW Beetle. He has had overheating problems with it and now has replaced all hoses, clamps, caps, etc. he has flushed the system, stopped all of the leaks, and more. Today while sitting in a drive thru burger place with car idling, it suddenly blew off the radiator cap underneath the hood. He said the car was running great at the time and the overheating light never came on before the cap was blown off. Do you have any idea what might cause too much pressure in the radiator, so much to blow the cap off?

You didn't say if he replaced the thermostat yet or not?from my experience the only thing that would cause that kind of pressure build up is a stuck thermostat.
