stops taking acceleration, dies down, problems re-starting

Hi, My VW Beetle 1.6litre petrol would all of a sudden stop taking acceleration. Sometimes, it would jerk as if there is something clogged up, mostly it would not take the acceleration at all. After few seconds the car would die down and engine would cut off. If i try to re-start it would struggle to. After couple of minutes i can re-start and drive off untill the same happens next time. FYI, the fuel pump has been changed recently and the fuel pump relay as well. This problem started occuring after change of the fuel pump. Please help
