melted wire to ignition switch

2000 VW Beetle 2.0L - car had diagnosis at dealership as car had no crank, no dashboard cluster lights. they said ignition switch had a melted wire and was wondering if the wire can be replaced or do i have to buy a ignition switch as well. keys needed reprogramming but it wouldn't program it as of the melted wire.
