I came out of the store and my beetle won't start, all lights work, it turns over just won't start. Ideas of what could be wrong?

When I left a previous store, the car did some hopping, and then died, like I was in third gear or something. I pulled over, but it started right back up, but then less then twenty minutes later is when it wouldn't start. no noises or leaks, it just turns over without starting. I did notice when you turn the key, I hear a clicking noise which sounds like it's coming from the fuse panel, and the check engine light blinks in time with the clicking, and then there is a loud buzz. I just recently hit 200K miles on the car.

How long has your 1999 Volkswagen Beetle had this problem?
