need to remove the motor so I can replace it.

I have not performed this operation, but many late model vehicles require engine removal from the bottom of vehicle. The front sub-frame is removed from the vehicle with motor and transmission still mated to each other. You would have to support the vehicle on a hoist or high jack stands, then remove the sub-frame with a hydraulic platform, without the said platform you would have to use multiple floor jacks to balance the assembly, which is dangerous. I do not recommend this repair be done individuals not experienced with front drive powertrains or not properly equipped. I'm sure you can get a reasonable estimate from a VW specialty shop for this job.
You probably should check here http://www.autozone.com/autozone/myzone/profile/membershipBenefits.jsp , http://www.alldata.com/index.jsp or here http://www.bentleypublishers.com/volkswagen for step by step work procedures. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. I personally use the Bentley manuals in book form and online as a "go to" resource for VW , Audi and Porsche concerns. Just a thought.....
Thanks for your help anyway. My husband is the mechanic and this will be his first attempt. The older bugs motors are in the rear but these are in the front. Let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.
