Too many reasons that the air conditioning system could malfunction. Hands on testing is required; the question is too wide open to even speculate. Refrigerant is great to have in the system, but if all the mechanical and electrical components are not working properly, the system will still not operate.

Thank you very much. After I asked and posted this question I realized that there were just too many variables. As a 59 yr. old Grandma, it was probably wishful thinking to get an easy answer... thanks again. I did bookmark the page with several suggestions as to what may be going on. Sounds like a proper diagnosis is needed.
