Tough to make out what the actual problem is by the description. I'd be looking into a possible distributor issue. May not be much help but that's where i'd be looking even if it's new or newer.
Try replacing the little green plugged sensor under the distributor its just behind and above the bvsv with the 2 nipples that goto the char can and throttle body the sensor is coolant temp and i broke mine off trying to install the bvsv and dveloped this problem the engine light came on and suddenly from a dead cold start it wouldnt fire then id go again and it would fire a little and it would get better every time i turn the key all the way off and back on and start it
If its not the temp sensor under the distributor open the distributor and find the little spark prong that looks like a little arch on the cap end of the coild and see if it has any rust on itif so just file it off dont sand it off the sandpaper grit will get into the distributor and ruin it ask me how i know
