Hi, this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Sounds like an unpleasant experience for sure. As for the shaking and lurching, this could be caused by the rotors being warped. The frequency at which you've had to replace the pads and rotors, however, is more of a gamble. Typically Toyota rotors have enough material to be machined (rather than replaced) in most cases, depending on the severity of the warp they may not have been salvageable. Otherwise, there are a lot of factors that come into play when it comes to brakes, everything from driving style, local terrain (hills, mountains, etc.,) towing/ hauling, and stop-and-go situations like city traffic can lead to more brake wear than highway driving. Looking ahead, regular inspections by a qualified repair facility will help you stay informed on your brakes' health and avoid any surprises down the road.
