What is your question?
2014 toyota tacoma, 4x4 4 cylinder. I am replacing hub assemblies and when the CV shaft is installed into the knuckle, it sounds like the outer seal on the cv axle is rubbing against the flat part of the seal on the knuckle. Both seals, the rubber still feels pliable, all are original. I tried bending the metal ring on the outer cv joint that covers the rubber seal back a bit thinking the rust on that was contacting the outer lip of the seal on the knuckle, but the sound is still there. I greased everything, including the rubber part of the seals, thinking they were just dry but that didn't solve it either. If I slide the cv axle out of the knuckle a bit so that the seal on the knuckle still holds the spindle, the noise goes away, so I suspect the problem is with the seal on the outer cv joint, but I can't seem to find if that is a replacement item without getting a whole new axle. Is there something I am just doing wrong?

Are the hub assemblies original equipment Toyota parts? Perhaps there is a small variable of dimensions that is causing the rubbing, if the parts replaced are not genuine Toyota replacements? This is the kind of thing that can happen, unforeseen. It's my thought that it's more the hubs utilized, not the original existing axles which haven't changed. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Seek a second opinion hands on by a local shop near you.
