1997 tacoma will not stay in 3rd gear, slips, no O/D

Hello, testing is definitely needed -- but I would check to see if there could be an issue with the speed sensor that provides information to the cruise control system and also the transmission for proper shifting. Alternatively, you could have some other electrical or even an internal mechanical concern. Too difficult to tell without hands on testing.
