why would the valet key not start the car

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. It is my guess that somewhere along the line, keys for the vehicle were programmed without the valet key present. If this happens, the relationship between the valet key and the security system module would be lost and the key would no longer start the vehicle.
