What is your question?
I’m trying to change my mom’s oil, but I can’t get the drain bolt off. I’m using a torque wrench to no avail. Online I’ve found advice to use a blowtorch to loosen the bolt through heat expansion. This scares me because her oil level is pretty low and I don’t want to take a blowtorch near an oil pan filled with oil vapors. Any advice?

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. It sounds like you're in a tough spot with that oil drain bolt. It is very possible that the drain plug was cross-threaded or over-tightened during the last oil change. If you want to get the bolt removed to assess the situation my recommendation would be to use a breaker bar with the correct sized socket to apply more torque. Before you go any further, consider the fact that if the threads are damaged you may not be able to reinstall the drain plug. It may be best to add oil to the correct level and bring the vehicle to a professional so it doesn't become immobile at your home.
