The flashing is usually a code - count the flashes, usually in a two digit code. Then the light usually stays solid. The code will help determine the cause. This system is too sensative to have that kind of control. When the car is started, the system "proves out" and verifies no faults. If anything is seen, it shuts the system down, and flashes out the code.
