Why does my car hesitate to start ?

Hello, You have been fairly clear, except for the dry feeling you described. That sensation should be pointed out to a technician on a road test to determine a better descriptor. The D light not illuminating and the window are separate issues, and the cranking may or may not be related to the D light. If the vehicle is acting as if it will fail to start, there are several factors that could cause this: Low fuel pressure Weak battery Clogged or leaking idle air control valve (IACV) Worn out ignition components etc.. As for the D light issue, this might be part of Toyota's programming to alert to a transmission malfunction, or you may have a dead spot on the screen/burned out bulb, depending on the type of display. I will say this, it sounds like the only possible connection between all three is a weak charging system. I would have the battery tested, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight, ensure the ground for the battery is clean an tight, and check for any melted or damaged spots on the positive battery cable.
