When driving my vehicle and making a turn I hear/feel a grinding noise. The dealership says I need my steering shaft replaced but the vehilce is safe to drive, just the noise will get louder. What is involved in correcting the problem and is it common problem with my Toyota Rav, it is only 4 yrs old.

A fellow I work with just had the same thing happen, his girlfriend was complaining of a noise and a few weeks later something broke, dealer initially replaced the steering shaft said they had seen it often giving problem on the RAV4. There are several Toyota Service Bulletins regarding steering shaft noise.
