A fluid change will only replace some of the fluid, not all of it, where as a flush will replace all of it. So the flush is the better choice.

If the transmission oil is change (not flushed ) regularly it is just as good. The earlier Prius had a small rectangle plate that could easily be removed with the drain plug in it to get more oil out and check for debris.

you described the earlier years but what about the 2005 and up? I work at a lube shop and Im trying to figure out how to do a drain and fill. It looks has if it has a fill and drain plug but dont want to take the chance without doin my research. please email me big_country68@hotmail.com

If you don't it will fail just like mine and cost you $5000 to repair. Do It!
