Screen turns off when external lights are turned on. How turn screen back on?

After 17 years, my screen now turns off when I turn on my external lights. I tried pressing Display and then Screen Off which I thought would turn it back on. But no luck.

How long has your 2001 Toyota Prius had this problem?
