**Looking for experience, knowledge of using after market Cat Conv. or suggestions/recommendations, please.** We want to use an after market Catalytic Converter 2001 and 2002 years, this company builds Catalytic Converters with downstream at the end (near the resonator). **We had bought a 2001 Toyota Prius Hybrid, with only 130,000 miles on odometer, from a teacher friend (she bought a newer car). We parked it on the street for one night, in a large city, 3 days later, 2 weeks ago, the Catalytic Converter was unbolted and cut cleanly, in front of the resonator. The car drove perfect!! Kicked it electric battery at 40 mph, like it should. --We found a great mechanic to weld a Catalytic Converter for a good price if we find one! He is honest with us and said he has only worked on a 2001 Toyota Prius Hybrid once and 15 years ago. **Please any suggestion or experience would be great! We would like to install the aftermarket Catalytic Converter for now, until save money for OEM.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Need to replace Catalytic Converter!
How long has your 2001 Toyota Prius had this problem?

The key is finding out if the parts you are using are legal in the state you register the vehicle in. In California, for example, where I am located - there are tons of rules about this, and it's almost impossible to find a reasonable "aftermarket" component to use. However in Oregon, it's possible the "aftermarket"" component is acceptable. You merely have to verify legality. Perhaps check with the repair shop to ensure they are standing behind the repair in thhe future. Additionally - have you consulted your insurance company for possible coverage?
