truck has been cranking fine for over a year. the last few days would not start normally but would if key is held to start and starter winds engine extra long. then starts sluggishly until catches up then runs, idles and accelerates maintains speed and power fine. all ok until shut off then have to run starter long time to crank again. sometimes starter runs longer than other to start but always longer than normal.

Two possibilities I can think of with this info: One, a failing fuel pressure regulator allowing the fuel to drain back to the fuel tank instead of remaining in the line. Two, an electrical system issue. The issue may be a failing starter. You may need to pull and have tested. To test the fuel pressure regulator: Turn key to on position but, do not start. Wait 5 seconds and turn to off. Repeat 3 or four times. Now start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts right up, fuel pressure regulator should be the issue. Otherwise have starter tested and check wires to the starter.
