Follow Dave's advice also toward the center of the brake drum on a Toyota there are usually two threaded holes, screw in two bolts 10mm x 1.25 thread this acts as a press to work the drums off. Tighten the bolts in and hit the sides of the drum with a hammer and you should have success.
This often happens when there is a "lip" on the outside edge of the surface of the drum. You have to be persistant, but make sure you are backing off the self-adjusting wheel all the way first. This will allow the shoes to contract further and enough to allow the drum off. A bigger hammer is good for a cracked or damaged drum...so be cautious.
They all do it. I am original owner of 1986 Japanese Toyota Pickup Short Bed Base 98,000 miles, no nothing not lighter no radio antenna no nothing To cure the problem of the rear drum not wanting to come off can be cured by removing the drum once a year. Mine used to not come off until I removed it every 12 months, since I did this in 1996 , it ALWAYS come off easily. Why they get stuck is up for debate, but they all do. Remove the drum every 12 months will cure the problem. It has for me since 1996
I seen the holes for bolts but didn't know what size bolts to get... Thanks
