What is your question?
I have an automatic transmission, with overdrive. After about an hour of driving, when I come to a stop. The car will not move after stepping on the gas pedal. I have to switch the gear down to 1st.gear, and slowly work my way up the gears until I’m and D for drive. The car feels sluggish, no power . I have to switch the car off. And wait awhile so the system can go back to normal. Also the overdrive light flashes when the car is acting up..
What makes this problem better or worse?
Letting the car cool off for awhile.

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Unfortunately, your concerns sound like they originate from an internal transmission concern. The flashing light indicates a recognized error with the electronic transmission systems. This does not sound easy to resolve without performing needed testing. A 1991 Toyota electronically controlled transmission is pretty primitive in nature as far as electronics go, but It is possible something that does not require a full tear down or replacement could be effective towards repair.
