Brake Master Cylinder - Soft Pedal until 2nd pump

What is your question?

The brake pedal on my 1999 L-Cruiser goes close to floor but brakes fine (not soft); but if I give the pedal a second pump I gain approx 2 or 3 inches on the pedal. A new master cylinder is $1,000 - is that the problem or could it be something else?

Sounds like your master cylinder is failing and I see them available at the auto parts stores for $143 Raybestos brand non ABS and $286 same brand 4 wheel ABS

I have the exact same problem as the original post. Can you tel me the part number that you found? I can't find anything for less than $1000. Thanks
