What is your question?
I have a 2006 Toyota highlander. I was low on oil and as I was putting oil in I noticed it was coming out as fast as I was putting it in. Coming out at the seam right below where the oil goes in. I tightened the four bolts that held the two sections of the engine together and it stopped. 3 months later I'm putting oil in and it's running out again. The bolts aren't loose this time. There is oil to the first mark on the stick, anything over that mark just runs out. Is there a gasket there that needs replaced? Or is it worse then that?I have to be able to fix it myself, I have no extra money for car repairs and now have 2 cars down.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Having it not leak
How long has your 2011 Toyota Highlander had this problem?
3 or 4 months I guess

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! If tightening the bolts helped initially but isn't doing the trick now, you might be dealing with a failed gasket or even a crack in the valve cover. The valve cover gasket is a likely suspect here, as it's right below where you pour the oil in and can cause the exact issue you're describing. Replacing the valve cover gasket isn't too bad of a DIY job if you're handy with a wrench. You'll need a new gasket, some gasket sealant, and a bit of patience. Just make sure you clean the mating surfaces thoroughly before putting it all back together. While you have the gasket off, you might want to inspect the valve cover itself for any cracks before replacing and reinstalling it.
