2007 Highlander Hybrid won't start on the first try, usually will on second try

My 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will not start on the first try, but usually starts on the second (sometimes I have to try a third time and hold it a moment longer). No lights on the dash are on. Once it's started it runs fine. Is there a quick fix or something to try before taking it to a professional?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Yesterday morning it started fine after being parked overnight (about 12 hours).
