What is the cost of replace a timming chain on 2007 fj cruiser.

Unfortunately this is getting more common with the early 4.0L FJs. Depending on the code you are getting so please share it. If the code does indicate a camshaft bank 1 related code then about 80-90% of the time the code you are referring to is because the passenger side VVT gear is faulty and needs to be replaced. If you are getting a camshaft bank 1 'correlation' code then your chain is stretched. YES it does happen on these and we have replaced many at our shop. We received a few FJs where the sensors, the VVTI gears and tensioners replaced and still get a code. The whole time the chain was stretched enough to cause the camshafts to crankshaft codes. Sorry for the long description. In short The dealer is around the right price for the big job at hand. I would also not have anyone other than a very qualified Toyota shop or dealer do the job. I will also recommend replacing the following since its already coming off: timing chain, right (passanger) VVT gear, timing chain tensioner, water pump, thermostat housing, and all the O-rings needed. It will be a $3300-4000 repair depending on what you replace and shop labor rates.

NO required service on timing chains,unless there is a problem with rattle noise.most of the time,you will send it to the scrap yard from something else happening to the engine.the chains most of the time will outlast the car,and still be good when it goes to the big toyota resting place.just keep your oil changed.i have 306,000 miles on a 2000 f150,and no problems with chains.i would get my car outta there,and find you a good local trusted repair shop
