attempt to get it fixed. Last year, Spider webs were cleaned out (from where I don't recall), and after a week the light reappeared. This year I replaced the purge solenoid valve. Again, after just a few days, the check engine light is back on. I need to get my car inspected and know it won't pass!

post the engine codes here and someone will point you in the right direction.
Before your car can pass inspection all the emission monitor tests/ self tests must pass. You mentioned purge valve, I'll bet you have evap. codes. So the purge valve is new. Does the canister close valve work? Does the bypass valve work? Does the system pass a leak check? Have you been told you need a new evap canister?
So, I replaced the gas cap, and earlier, the solenoid purge valve. After the new gas cap was put on, I did NOT get gas, as sometimes that's what sets the engine light to go on. I immediately went to a station again, for inspection. As I pulled in, the check engine light went on (thank you!). When mechanic did diagnostics, all five emissions codes appeared, even for the solenoid that was replaced. The mechanic told me I had to do the "self drive test". I just drove the car on highway, averaging 60 mph, for an hour. When I got home, I googled OBD self test instructions, only to learn the the car should have 30-70 percent of gas in the tank. As I was driving on empty the hour before, I filled it up before making that long drive (unbeknownst to me at that time that car should be 30-70). So, now what? I obviously messed up step no 1 of the self test! Even after an hours drive, that little car is STILL on full. Any suggestions? PS. I was able to get a "10 day extension" from the mechanic.
don't really worry about the order you drive it in...just drive it,around town, stop and go,interstate, heat on, heat off,A/C on,A/C off!! just drive it a few days, see what happens. maybe all of them will set? i know you have different standards in NY than we do in NC,i believe the same as CA emissions for NY.here in Gaston County in NC,we can have 2 monitors not ready on a 2000 down to 1996,so i only need 6 of 8 monitors set! 1995 and older they don't have emissions testing, only safety checks>>tires, wipers, lights and so on. 3 miles down the road in SC,they have NO emissions or safety, nothing, you just buy a sticker for your tag once a year...good luck with yours!
Okay, thank you so much for your quick response! I will post the outcome
you're welcome...post results...
