Impossible to answer your question but here is some insight... VVT solenoid is usually broken by someone (stupidity) using it as a fulcrum when tensioning alternator belt with pry bar... Must be replaced regardless of outcome! .. However engine performance will certainly be better with new part 'correctly' installed.
