Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Great question, and that's a really interesting pattern that's actually a helpful diagnostic clue! On your 2014 Toyota Corolla a P0705 transmission range sensor code that only triggers in hot weather strongly suggests a heat sensitive component rather than a fully failed one, which is actually good news. The transmission range sensor itself, also known as the neutral safety switch or PRNDL switch, is the most likely culprit as these sensors are known to become erratic as they age and heat up. A connector or wiring issue that only acts up when the heat causes expansion is another possibility worth considering before jumping to a full transmission replacement. I’d suggest getting a second opinion before agreeing to a full transmission replacement, as a P0705 code on its own is very rarely a reason to replace an entire transmission, especially on a vehicle that runs great most of the year. A qualified shop with proper diagnostic equipment should be able to test the range sensor and its wiring specifically under warm conditions to confirm whether a much less expensive sensor replacement would resolve the issue.
