newer cars go 5000 between changes and synthetic is an option, not a requirement. Roy

I change my oil and filter every 3000-3500 but as Roy mentioned 5000 miles would be fine. I've used Castrol brand oil since the 80s and find it to be a very good oil. Synthetic oil is not needed just be sure to purchase a quality brand.
