flushing a condenser

I took a class on the new freon coming out 1234, the instructor told us any time we flush a condenser or evap we needed to use a closed loop system. He also told us never use brake cleaner or paint thinner to flush. I don't know why he said you cant use brake cleaner that part didnt make sense.
