What is your question?
My son installed a Spiral Cell AGM Battery hoping it would hold the charge longer because he does not drive often. It "died" anyway. Repair shop says he can not charge it because it's a "Gel" battery and needs special charging equipment. My son says it's not a gel battery, but is a "spiral cell AGM" battery. Does that require a special charger or special process? If so, where do I bring it? Thanks!

This info is correct found on Mazda Miata web site: One of the differences with the AGM battery compared to the wet-cell battery is the recharge rate. That is, how fast you can put energy back into the battery. With a wet-cell battery you can "quick charge" it at about 20 amps or more. Usually this is when you would boil the electrolyte right out of the battery. The AGM batteries require a lower charge rate, for a longer time period. If your battery will not crank the engine, you should charge the battery at a rate of 1 amp or less for 18-24 hours. If you try and charge it like a wet-cell battery, you will destroy the battery.
Thank you so much. Does this require a special charger, or can this be done with a "regular" charger, but just set at the lower rate? If it requires a special charger, do you happen to know where I could take the battery to have this done in this area?
