What is your question?
I have a 2014 Toyota Camry that has approximately 203,000 miles. The last oil change was in September 2021 and the mileage was approximately 196,000. My car just stalled at a stop sign, and wouldn’t crank. After checking the oil it appeared that it hardly had any in it, and I smelled the engine burning for the first time. It was towed off and I was told the engine locked up and it would need to be replaced. It’s a mystery to me that I had none of the warning signs. No Oil light, no smoking out of the exhaust or any knocking or burning from the engine. Please advise because I was quoted $3,600 to replace it. Has anybody else had this happen, and if so, is there any recourse or could something else be the culprit? Thanks- Joel Sanders

First: Why are you going 7,000 miles between oil changes -- ever -- but especially at 196,000 miles? That alone is asking for trouble. Too long of an interval can cause the oil filter to become less effective and the oil less protective. Why did it have no oil in it? Did you have a catastrophic oil leak causing a loss of oil in the engine? Who is doing the oil change and what inspections are being performed during that service? A good shop will do a good courtesy inspection to see if there are leaks or components ready to fail. $3,600 to replace an engine is an absolute steal. Make sure you are getting an engine with some kind of guarantee or warranty. What kind of "recourse" are you thinking?
