I need to know if this spindle can be replaced or not and need to send pics?

My Car is in the shop for wheel bearing replacement and they telling me that they couldn't get the axle nut off so they stop but them get a call saying that the threads are to damaged to put the tire back on. So I took pictures of it and I'm think that the spindle can just be rethreaded. But they telling me that I need a new axle.
