When I'm turning while reversing I hear a popping noise. What could that be?

Sounds like a front axle that's starting to fail. To test put car in reverse an turn steering wheel all the way until it locks then push gas and if you hear knocking or clicking noise that means axle is bad. Also do the same test and turn steering in opposite direction to test other sides axle. Good luck
