Car only has 20,000 miles...dont brake pads deteriorate with age???even if not driven much????

No, they will not deteriorate with age. The rotors can become rusted if the car is not driven regularly, so if you have any issues when braking, get it looked at. Brake fluid should be replaced every 2-3 years no matter how much you drive.
Brake pads wear out with use, not age. There are three types. Organic are quiet and have good stopping power, but don't last long (the stock are organic and I had mine replaced at 26,000mi.) There are also ceramic pads. They last MUCH longer, but they may squeek in wet weather (harmless, but strange) and they don't offer the same stopping power. There is also a blended pad of organic and ceramic. They are the most expensive but offer the best of both worlds, longer life of ceramic and low noise/better stopping power of organic. Your choice.
