Where are the Egr valves located on the car and how would I go about making sure they are clean and if they need to be replaces?

Several components fail on the 4 cylinder. If the EGR functionally works when vacuum is applied it should make the engine want to stall. The solenoid that controls vacuum to the EGR can fail intermittently. The vacuum modulator also can fail have replaced them as well but the system needs to be checked properly before jumping to conclusions.
