Hood can't be propped up & glove box can't be unlocked.

My car's hood can't be propped up by the two cylinders at the hinge. They only slow down its falling. What's the cost of replacing them? Can I do it myself? Second Question: I locked my car's glove box using the key the orther day but then could't unlock it. I am afaid if I tried too hard turning the key, I might break it. Any suggestion on how to solve the problem?
