Is auto shop liable for mess created when they left off oil cap after oil change?

Two weeks ago auto shop left oil cap off after oil change. I drove home and my wife drove to mall twice. She complained of oil smell. Today i looked under hood and found an oil cap missing and an oily mess under hood. What should I ask auto shop to do to correct this?

Ask them to clean up the mess, including a steam clean of your engine and under hood area. I hope that your engine did not run too low on oil and was not damaged. Do you have a State agency for Consumer rights that helps Automotive consumers? In CA where I live we have the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair )
