What's causing my car to start smoking really bad for a few seconds then stop

I'm not too mechanically inclined but I did just replace my rear valve cover on the same car and mine was doing the same thing. There might be a coolant leak somewhere in your engine block possibly from a bad gasket or lines. Is it a thick white smoke, burnt smoke, or light white smoke, or maybe a shade of dark blue?
